The final leg of our trip to Southern Africa was in Zimbabwe. After a wonderful time in Botswana we crossed into Zimbabwe at Kazungula. Yet more waiting and more paperwork and passport stamping there (a feature of this trip in every country). We stayed at Victoria Falls town and were lucky that the marathon was taking place there on our first morning, so we were able to watch a bit of that and cheer on the runners. We did some sightseeing, walked to the border crossing at the bridge and got a feel for the place.
The main attraction of course were the falls though. After remortgaging our house we took a helicopter flight over the Falls. Wow! Expensive, but definitely worth it to see the Falls in their entirety. The highest waterfalls in the world and they certainly didn't disappoint. The next day we visited the Falls from a different perspective - on foot. It was certainly a very wet day as the Falls produce so much spray. At times it felt like standing in heavy rain. Thank goodness for our macs! The views were spectacular though and well worth the soaking. We also went to a few cafe/restaurants that had viewpoints.
On our final evening we went to a traditional "Boma" dinner where more exotic game meat was on the menu, including crocodile and macimbi (mopane worm). The drums were beating and the locals danced into the night. It was a fabulous way to end our great Southern African Odyssey.
