After previous safaris in Kenya and Senegal, we decided this year to travel to Southern Africa to see the wildlife there. It was a long flight via Ethiopia to Windhoek in Namibia where we started our adventure with a sunset beer on the hotel rooftop. The main attraction of course was Etosha National Park where we did game drives seeing plenty of wildlife. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed lots of beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The toilet facilities in the park left a lot to be desired, but we made up for that by staying in some lovely lodges in Etosha, Divundu and Kongola. We also got to visit the Cheshire home in Katima Mulilo where Jane did her VSO. We were lucky to have a great set of fellow travelers to share our safari experiences with. There were lots of laughs and lots of stories shared over evening beers. Border crossings became and event in themselves as we crossed over the border into Botswana several times and then back in again. They certainly love their paperwork there! Although the wildlife was not as abundant as in Botswana (Chobe and the Okavanga) it was still thrilling to see the animals go about their daily life. A great start to our Southern Africa Odyssey.
