After a wonderful week in Montenegro we crossed the border back into Croatia and after a lovely drive along the coast we arrived in Dubrovnik. Here we discovered the art of forwards and reverse driving on the narrow switchbacks. It was the only way to get around. To the locals it was just something they did. To me it was terrifying reversing up steep narrow tracks! We had a lovely apartment just outside the old town with fantastic views of the old town from our balcony. We spent a couple of days exploring the walled town, which, despite the crowds, was an amazing place.
Then it was off to Split. Our apartment there looked pretty daunting from the outside—an old Soviet style block of flats covered in graffiti. Inside, however, it was a lovely spacious place to use as a base. Split itself didn’t really appeal to us...far too busy and not a lot to see. We did enjoy a long walk on the Marjan, but spent our time there going on trips to Trogir which was much prettier than Split and of course to the awesome Krka National Park. The Slap Skradinski Buk waterfalls were good to visit, but we also did some serious climbing up to the view point above the Roski Slap falls which was amazing. We also enjoyed a perilous journey along a dirt track involving moving fallen trees so the car could get through to the start of the walk to the Rogovo viewpoint. We finished off our time in Split with some time on the beach. The weather throughout was fantastic.
Before we knew it, it was time to set off for our final destination….Bosnia and Herzegovina.
