We actually entered Botswana on several occasions on this trip. The first crossing being at Divundu where we crossed from Namibia to visit the Okanvanga Delta area. After clearing immigration and customs (a story in itself) we set off for the Tsodilo hills to see the 3000 year old rock paintings there before spending several nights at the Nguma Island Lodge (which involved transferring to a huge truck which navigated the flooded roads to the camp). We were lucky enough to spend a day traveling on the Okavanga Delta by Mokoro (local dugout canoe) where we saw lots of wildlife - particularly birds. It was a fabulous experience staying in tents on stilts above the water.
Our second crossing was at Chobe (another story of queues, paperwork and passport stamping). The game drive there on the first morning was the most spectacular on our trip. It started with a sighting of a cheetah and we were fortunate enough to spend a long time observing this magnificent creature. Then we came across a pride of lions feasting on a water buffalo which they had obviously just killed. A bonus was seeing their cubs playing in the grassland as the mothers ate. In addition there were plenty of different antelopes, elephants, giraffes and lots of birds. One afternoon we went on a river trip on the Chobe river and again the wildlife there was spectacular - hippos by the hundred, elephants, water buffaloes, crocodiles and lots more birds. Chobe was definitely the highlight of our trip as far as wildlife goes.
Again, the scenery throughout Botswana was wonderful - it was interesting to see the local houses change from rectangle (Namibia) to round in Botswana. The locals were again so friendly, the food was great and the beer was cold and refreshing. Perfect.
New delicacies I sampled on this trip included Eland, Springbok, Buffalo, Warthog and Crocodile.
