Celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary in Venice! Visiting Venice at the end of July during peak season would not be something we would usually consider, but this was a special occasion.
We actually stayed in Lido di Jesolo in the Hotel D’Annunzio. The idea being to have some relaxing by the beach as well as busy times in Venice. The weather was against us, with a few days of rain, so not a lot of sunbathing took place!! It also meant that we had to chose the Sunday before our anniversary for the big gondola ride as it was the day with the best weather.
Getting to Venice meant a very early bus to Punta Sabbioni and from there the ferry to Venice. It was easy enough and an enjoyable experience sailing into Venice in the early morning light. We had Venice to ourselves and began our sightseeing at 7am when the streets were quiet!. Thoroughly enjoyed all the sights and for once didn’t worry about the cost, enjoying coffee and wine in cafes and people watching between the sights. The highlight of course was the gondola ride. We had the canals to ourselves and it was such a peaceful and moving experience.
We also found time to visit Burano and Murano, which were both beautiful as well as time in the Jewish Quarter and Ghetto. Did it live up to expectations—YES! It got very busy in the afternoons though and we were always exhausted when we got back to Lido di Jesolo. That meant of course we needed more wine to help us relax…...
