A return trip to Thailand in February. This time to Krabi, where we stayed at the lovely L Resort in Ao Nang beach. It was great to be back. The weather was amazing, the people as friendly as ever and the food was to die for. Despite Ao Nang becoming a bit of a package holiday resort, we still managed to find the real Thailand once we left the resort. Days filled with afternoon walks along the beach, either North to Hat Noppharatthara or South via the Monkey trail to Pai Plong. We took a boat to the Hong Islands where we managed to get in some snorkelling as well as enjoy the different islands in the area—the highlight being the strenuous climb to the top of Hong Island itself for the view. We took the local Songthaew to Krabi town where we visited Wat Kaew Korawaram, walked the mangrove tail (nearly getting soaked in a storm) and took a long tailed boat ride down the river, visiting cave temples on the way. I even got to drive the boat which was fun. On another long tailed boat we ventured back out to sea to visit Poda, Tub and Chicken Islands for more snorkelling before ending up at the famous Railay beach. Another highlight was visiting Tiger Temple Cave, where we went up the 1260 nearly vertical, knee high steps to the golden Stupa and Buddha at the top of the mountain. Exhausting in the 35 degree heat, but worth it for the amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
I don’t thing we would go back to Ao Nang, but another trip to Thailand must be on the cards as the country keeps giving up its wonders to us. Hopefully next time will be without a 9 hour wait in Bangkok Airport!
