Tenerife, the last of the big Canary Islands that we wanted to visited. We decided to avoid the crowds in the South and stayed at the Casablanca Apartments in Puerto de la Cruz. What a fab place—the balcony alone was bigger than any of the apartments we have stayed in! Not sure how we managed that with what we paid! Puerto de la Cruz was pleasant enough. There was a lot more opportunity to speak Spanish as it wasn’t as “English” a set up as in a lot of the places we have been to on the islands.
As always we were out and about. 2 fantastic national Parks on the Island—Teide and Anaga. Despite the engine warning light being constantly on, the car persevered and we managed to see everything we planned. We completed the La Fortaleza and Roques de Garcia treks in Teide Park, suffering a little sunburn though as we underestimated the strength off the sun so high up above the clouds. In Anaga we completed the Roque de Taborno trek, the trek from Las Carboneras to Chinamada and the trek to El Draguillo from the fabulous Benijo beach.
Some of the drives were absolutely stunning—is a little hairy at times!. The weather was kind to us. We did have a little rain, but it was usually pretty warm with plenty of sunshine.
We also managed to explore around Puerto de la Cruz—particularly enjoying the black sand beaches at Punta Brava and Bollulo beach as well as finding a lovely walk along a river bed to the nearest Lidl!. We do intend to return, this time to explore the South of the Island.
