Santorini is the latest Greek island that we wanted to visit. Famous for its sunsets, picture postcard villages and walks, it was the ideal place for a fortnight of Autumn sunshine. We stayed at the fabulous Aegean View hotel on the outskirts of Kamari. It was a mixed couple of weeks—alternating between days out exploring and days by the pool. We did a lot of walking—from Kamari to Ancient Thera up the old pathway, from our hotel to Fira and Skaros Rock, from the hotel up the mountain to the island’s highest point and the Monastery of Prophet Elias, from Fira to Oia along the coastal path and finally from our hotel to Oia—the full length of the island. We also went on a boat trip where we visited Nea Kameni, the active part of the island, Palia Kameni where I managed a swim in the hot springs and Thirasia where we enjoyed a lovely meal (and drink of course) by the sea. We managed to get around most of the island by walking or by bus, but on one day we hired a buggy top see the far flung places (managed a free upgrade as the one we had booked had a fault). Visits to red beach, the museum at Akrotiri and the Lost Atlantis museum as well as some lovely viewpoints finished off what was a fab holiday, with great weather (despite the wind), great food and of course lots of wine!!! The highlight was a fancy meal in an expensive (well expensive for us anyway) restaurant on the edge of the cliff in Fira to watch the sunset.
