A fabulous trip to North Macedonia included a day in Albania as well. We stayed at the lovely Villa Veron on Lake Ohrid which was the perfect base for exploring the area. We did lots of walking and exploring as well as sampling the local cuisine and beverages. Hiring a car meant we got to travel round the lake which involved crossing into Albania to see the other side. We spent a day there visitng Lin, Pogradec and Tushemisht. The "back in time" way of life there, the bunker with the best view in the world, the parking rip off and the cafe with an amazing view over the lake were all stand out moments in Albania. Back in North Macedonia, we drove to the spectacular National Park Galacica where we hiked up Magaro mountain (2255m) which allowed us views over Lake Prespa as well as Ohrid. We visited Sveti Naum, such a peaceful and serene area with a picture perfect monastery and clear springs. We also did lots of exploring on foot, including the beautiful old town, up to Velestovo , round the lake and to Sveti Stefan for some sunbathing and a swim in the lake (no snakes to be seen thankfully!). Evenings meant a stroll round town eating at local restaurants ..... lots of Goulash and Tavce Gravce swilled down with bottles of Ztaten Dab or Skopske. Lovely place, very much undiscovered by western tourists. I'm sure it wont be long before the lake is surrounded by all inclusive hotels. Glad we got to see it as it is now.
