Our first trip to Lanzarote. We were supposed to be going to Jordan this month, but Easyjet cancelled the Manchester to Aqaba route which left us without anywhere to go. A quick search to find the cheapest flights and hotel to anywhere warm led us here and the Celeste Apartments (or caravans as we called it). It was nice enough and the sun was hot, though it certainly lived up to its windy reputation! We got lots of walking in and managed to scale the Montagna Tinaguache (though high winds meant we couldn’t walk around the narrow crater edge). We got the bus to Teguise, where we managed to walk up another volcano to see the Castillo de Santa Barbara, perched on the rim of the crater. We also managed to get up to Punta Mujeres for a swim in the natural rock pools there. We found our favourite spot on a long walk up the costal path. A bench in a sheltered spot with cracking views. Lanzarote has a lot to offer when you get out of the resorts. Lots of volcanic rock and black sand. We ate well and particularly enjoyed the Costa restaurant opposite the apartments. A fun night was had when we met Andy and Kerry who also happened to be there at the same time, though we did drink a bit too much, resulting in a day by the pool the next day! Looking forward to exploring the South of the island when we return in November.
