Living in the sun, not holidaying, was the catchphrase of our second visit to Lanzarote this year. Based at the Tisalaya Apartments in Puerto del Carmen, we were there to try out longer term living abroad as well as exploring the south of the Island. We relied on our own two feet and the buses for our first week. We did lots of walking, climbing Montana Roja and visiting Playa Blanca. We also found the local Lidl and enjoyed eating home cooked food as well as going out. We had a car for the second week and were able to travel further afield, visiting and climbing more volcanoes as well as a trip to the Timanfaya National Park. We walked the coastal route from El Golfo (finding a lovely deserted black sand beach) and visited Charco verde, the green lake. We also travelled North to the Mirador del Rio for fab views of La Graciosa. We also managed the 4k walk down a steep 500m cliff to playa del risco—one of the highlights of the time there, having a lovely sandy beach to ourselves. So beautiful, all my clothes fell off!! Another highlight was the walk to Playa de Papagayo, near Playa Blanca … so beautiful. The final week was filled with more walking and more experimenting with different things to cook in the appt, as well as lots of sampling the local drinks! Away from the resort, Lanzarote has so much to offer. We will definitely be back. Hopefully for a bit longer.
