The final part of our visit to the Far East was Hong Kong. Somewhere we have wanted to visit for years but it has always eluded us. Following the train ride from the airport we had a difficult and hot walk through the very crowded and hilly streets of “Central” with all our belongings to our hotel Butterfly, situated in the middle of LKF (Lan Kwai Fong). It was a great location for exploring this magnificent city. It was monsoon season and one of the first things we did was buy an umbrella after being caught in a downpour. It didn’t deter us though and we managed our time according to the weather. We took the bus up to the Peak for the magnificent views and walked the circuit before getting the tram down. We got the Star ferry across to Kowloon and visited the Temple St and Ladies night markets. The evening light show was a bit of a disappointment. We took the metro to Lantau Island and took the cable car up to the big Buddha as well as visiting Man Mo temple.
It was a short visit of only a few days, but nevertheless worth it. We were lucky (most of the time) with the weather and it was great to experience this mad, vibrant city. Mind you, after 3 weeks on the road, we were happy to get to the airport and home.
