In May we travelled to Frankfurt for Nora’s wedding. We decided to make a week of it as it was an opportunity to see old friends as well as enjoy the wedding. We stayed at Elisabeth’s flat where she spoiled us rotten with food, drink and great company.
On the first evening we met Amanda, Nora’s wife to be. We spent the Tuesday walking around Frankfurt and enjoying Elisabeth’s wonderful cooking (Maultaschen) as well as having a walk round some of the parks there and a visit to the family garden. On Wednesday, after another wonderful breakfast we travelled to Idstein where we met with Waltraud and Roland before going on to their house in Aarbergen to drink some of Roland’s Apfelwein. In the evening we went to Bornheim to sample more Apfelwein in a traditional pub and meet Amanda’s parents. On Thursday we were in Gelnhausen and visited Karl Wildner for coffee and cake, before going for a tasty Kebab outside Lorbass where we met Monika and then moved on to visit the Grauel Family for yet more coffee and cake. We met Benjamin after he had finished teaching and travelled to Gallus to spend a wonderful evening with him and Sirwa. It was a fun evening with lots of laughs, greta food and too many beers. On Friday morning after a great breakfast (breakfasts were amazing in Frankfurt!!) we left Benjamin’s and walked along the river and then up to Elisabeth’s to have a quick nap before the wedding. It was the day of the church wedding. There were only 20 of us there. After the service we all went back to Nora’s where we drank champagne, sang songs and got to know the two extended families. The official wedding took place on Saturday at the Römer where we all drank champagne as we waited for the tram that never turned up (unfortunately a demonstration in the centre stopped the antique tram that Nora had booked for us to travel to the Stadtwald). Undeterred we all took public transport and arrived at the Stadtwald for an afternoon and evening of fine food and great entertainment and of course lots more alcohol. It was great to see some old friends there—Nikki and Miriam. Sunday was a day of rest. After enjoying time with Elisabeth’s other guests over another great breakfast, Elisabeth took us up to the Lohrberg where there were great views of Frankfurt to enjoy with an ice cold beer. The final evening was Schnitzel and grüne Soße and a few drinks on the balcony.
We did see the sights in Idstein, Gelnhausena and Frankfurt, but this week was about friends—both old friends and lots of new friends made. I think the photos reflect this.
