Finally, with travel restrictions lifted, we were able to get away for the first time in nearly 2 years. This time it was a trip to Cyprus, visiting our good friends Roger and Lindy in their Villa Miya in Mandria. We nearly didn’t make it as my mum took a turn for the worse in the week before, but with her blessing and the nod from the rest of the family we went ahead. There was a lot of paperwork involved as well as booking day 2 PCR tests for when we returned.
It was great to be away again and in the sunshine. Roger and Lindy took us on a trip to Kourion to the ruins there, where we spent a comical few hours looking for clams, columns and the obligatory olive press. We also managed to get in a sunset at Petra tou Rominou—Aphrodite’s rock. We also went sailing with them on a friend’s boat which was fab! The week was dominated by lots laughs, lots of pints of Keo and lovely Cypriot meals in local tavernas. I say Cypriot, but as we all know Cyprus is one of the Greek Islands!!!!
We spent a few days by the pool relaxing and managed a trip to Paphos where we had a nice long walk to Paphos beach and then, after a lovely kebab, an excellent afternoon at the Archaeological Site. Kathryn discovered a new favourite ice cream flavour—banana.
All in all a great holiday which we had all kept a secret from Kathryn as it formed part of her 50th birthday celebrations. We won’t forget the olive presses, the bike ride figs, Aphrodite's clam, Keo on the beach and, of course, our plastic cat.
