Our first long haul holiday with the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and unlimited drinks etc on the scheduled airlines, but it was a long flight. Taking the train into central Bangkok we noticed people with brightly coloured shirts and water pistols. We later realised we had arrived in the middle of Songkran and it was the start of a wet few days in Bangkok. We will never forget the tuk tuk ride from Wat Po back to the hotel. Drenched! We did the sights in Bangkok (though it was very busy with Chinese bus tours) and the kids joined in with the ceremonies at the different wats. We ate street food and used local transport and the kids really got into it. We even saw the King of Thailand as he drove past with his motorcade.
Then we flew to Koh Samui and stayed in the Chaweng area. Lots of time on the beach and snorkelling off the beach. Evenings were spent strolling along the crazy streets of Chaweng finding different places to eat great food. And shopping of course—lots of shopping. Lunch was the obligatory spring roll and donut from the beach seller who came by every day to sell to us. We saw a Ladyboys show which left the kids somewhat bemused and Jas managed a few Thai massages. Koh Samui was much changed—lots of Chinese tourists who filled the restaurants and streets.
