This was the first time we took the kids away at Christmas. It was great to get back to the Gambia and see Awa, Sonu and Bintou again. We stayed in Kotu this time at the Palm Beach Hotel, which was really nice. It meant a very long walk to Kololi for fruit at Awa’s, but it was worth it.
The beach was good at Kotu and we spent lots of time in the crashing waves. It was good to explore the different restaurants in Kotu, especially the Indian buffet we had. We explored the monkey park and went out in the Senegambia strip—though Ali Baba’s was shut for renovations.
The highlight was a trip to Senegal to the Fatala National Park where we went on safari. The kids did lots of shopping, perfecting their bartering skills and they both had their hair braided on the beach. Jas went horse riding along the beach as well.
