Our second visit to Sri Lanka saw us visiting the North of the island for 2 weeks. The photos show Kathryn at the beach in Wadduwa, and set amongst the other photos there are the ruins of the ancient capitals at Polonnaruwa, Anradhapura and Sigiriya. They were the most amazing structures - all built between 500BC and 500AD. The huge rock is at Sigiriya where Kathryn overcame her fear of heights to scale it to see the palace ruins at the top. There is a photo of one of the cave paintings half way up Sigiriya. We visited Anradhapura on "Poya", a religious holy day which meant we were there with all the pilgrims - you can see them on one of the photos listening to the wise words from a monk. There is also a photo of one of the trains crossing the bridge. We walked the railway line every day.
