Sri Lanka was a fantastic place to visit - two weeks there before flying on to the Maldives. How lucky are we! Once again, the people in Sri Lanka were so friendly, the weather was warm and the curries were great.
Photos from the top show a guy climbing to some of the tallest palms I've ever seen - scary!, the delicious red bananas at a street stall in the highlands, a stilt fisherman (named after the stilt he uses to get deeper into the sea from the shore) and a statue of Buddha put up to honour those lost in the Tsunami on the South Coast. Near the photo of Damien getting pummelled by the waterfall there are some of the animals we saw on our safari at Yala National Park - that was truly amazing - especially seeing a wild boar getting attacked by a croc!
And yes that is a photo of cows walking along the beach at sunset - surreal doesn't describe it! There's a couple of photos of our adventures on Sri Lankan railways (2nd class of course - there was no room in 3rd class and we weren't going on the roof!!). We had given up trying to get around by road - on average you only travel 35 kms in an hour due to the traffic and narrow roads.
Also at the bottom there's a photo of the tea plantations at Nuwara Eliya (with a tea picker wrapped in a green polythene sheet to keep the rain off) and a Hindu temple (which was closed unfortunately) in Colombo. Definitely a place to visit again as there are still places that we didn't get to see - especially the ruins and caves at the old capitals.
