Travelling to Cambodia came about after seeing photos of the temples which had been lost in the jungles around Siem Riep for centuries. It wasn't long before we'd planned our 3 week trip which involved 9 flights!
From the top, the photos show Kathryn climbing the steps at Akgkor Wat - this photo does not do justice to the steepness of the stairs nor the height of each step - very scary. The people who had the temples built wanted to stress that the way to "heaven" is not easy. Then there is Angkor Wat - the largest of the temple complexes - this was an attempt to get it reflected in the water....hmmmm. The other temple photos are from various complexes in the area. We hired a Moto to spend days going around the area from morning till night - utterly exhausting but each time different and amazing. The central photo is my favourite - we could have stood and stared at that sight for days.
On we went to Phnom Penh where you see the guy taking a well earned rest in his rickshaw. The house on stilts was on the way to the killing fields and we are still not sure what the green stuff is that they were growing and harvesting. Of course we went to the market (always a must when we go away!) and I only managed to get one photo of the family on a moped - I never seemed to get the shot of the moped with 7 on it! We didn't take photos at the killing fields or any of the detention camps, but probably the most annoying was not taking the camera out on our wedding anniversary when we hired a boat and went cruising down the Mekong - unforgettable but also unrecorded!Â
