Thailand was like a breath of fresh air after India. Fresh milk, shops with air conditioning, toilets with plumbing, cleaner streets. After a few days acclimatising and stocking up on new clothes on the Khao San Rd, I headed North to Kanchanaburi to see the original bridge over the river Kwai. The photo shows how different it is compared to the film. After hiring a bike I explored the area, seeing lots of sights including the museum to the POWs and up Erawan Falls. There are photos of some of the houses on stilts, a photo of me at Erawan falls and me with my bike. Further down there is me sunbathing on a rock and relaxing in a hammock on Ko Tao. Got to Ko Tao by taking the train to Surat Thani and then on the overnight pineapple boat to Ko Tao. Stayed on Ko Tao for a while as it was so nice. Managed to get pretty bad sunburn.
Back in Bangkok there are some photos of a trip on a long tail boat, some monks on the ferry over the river to Wat Arun and me by a statue in the Grand Palace. Probably saw just about every Wat mentioned in the Lonely Planet in Bangkok. Then it was back on the train up to Sukhothai via Na-khon Ratchasima and Phitsanulok. Sukhothai was the first capital of Siam. And is a UNESCO world heritage city. So much to see and do, but fortunately I had plenty of time! Needed to hire a scooter though to get round everywhere. There are photos of the amazing temple ruins there.
After 6 great weeks enjoying fabulous food and meeting lots of interesting people it was time to spend a few more days in Bangkok before heading to the airport.
