New Zealand 1992

As I had been to Oz the previous year I only stayed for a week before flying on to New Zealand. The top row of photos shows Sidney where this time I was able to sleep in a backpackers rather than in the park! They were filming an episode of Minder where the backpackers was. Managed to go to Sydney Zoo this time to see the Koalas.

New Zealand was an amazing experience. I hitch hiked round most of it, but got on a bus for the West Coast of the South Island due to the weather and lack of cars. Hitching in NZ was unbelievable; never waited more than 20 mins for a lift. In Auckland I stayed with some friends of Walter and Elisabeth’s. They were really nice. Then it was off around both islands for 6 weeks. In the photos that’s me in Christchurch with some of the backpackers I met on the way. There is also the campsite in Queenstown and gold panning. Below that I am hitching a lift, the Karawau bridge where I did my bungy jump at the Original AJ Hackett site. There are some photos of Rotorua and the Fox Glacier as well as Malborough sounds. Stayed in a mixture of backpackers and campsites in the tent.
