I crossed into Czechoslovakia at Zinnwald Georgenfeld after travelling through East Germany. The border was still in place and I had to get a visa to cross into Czechoslovakia. In addition, non Czech residents had to buy petrol vouchers at the border. There was a shortage of petrol and you had to buy vouchers in advance (at an inflated price of course). I got it wrong and didn’t buy enough vouchers at the border and with the prospect of running out of fuel I had to bribe a local garage man to fill up the tank.
It was amazing to see Czechoslovakia just after the fall of the iron curtain. The photos show a traditional phone box in Pilsen, the amazing rooftops of Prague and a poor picture of the Charles bridge. There is also a photo from a very moving visit to Terezin (Theresienstadt) concentration camp. One of the less well known concentration camps.
